When we interpret Ourselves throuh Devices (OVGU)
verantwortlich: Luzia Krieg

How scales, watches and apps are changing the way we view our bodies, our health and ourselfes.

Today, many people use scales, smartwatches, or apps to learn more about their body, sleep, physical activity, or stress levels. These technologies can provide useful guidance and support healthy habits. At the same time, they raise a more intriguing and deeper question: What happens when technological feedback begins to shape how we experience ourselves?

This talk explores this question from a nuanced perspective. It examines what scientific research tells us about the benefits and limitations of smart devices, the psychological and social dynamics that can be associated with self-tracking, and what a healthy approach to these technologies might look like. The focus is neither on enthusiasm for technology nor on skepticism towards it, but on taking a reflective look at body awareness, our relationship with ourselves, and health literacy in an increasingly digitalized everyday and working environment.
